Executive Copy and Print in Oregon City, OR was a long time user of  a SilverMaster camera platemaker. They needed to make a change with their plate making but didn’t have all the answers.  They went to a Presstek open house and saw their polyester solution but wasn’t sold on the device due to the cost and the costs of the service contract.  They had a good relationship with their xpedx paper and graphics store account rep. and sought out her advice on new ways to make plates.  She said they should look at the Printware line of polyester platesetters.   She called in me to help explain the differences in the different types of systems and how they would benefit their shop and their needs.  One of their big issues was the quality of the screens they were getting with the camera platemaker.  In some cases they were sending out jobs to have film and metal plates made so they could get a higher quality screen.

I had some sample plates made for them, just some simple 2/C jobs with nice screens and tighter registration and they ran just great!  They couldn’t believe how well the screens held.  Then they went on a field trip to see a customer who has an older Printware 34 device and got the how great Printware’s support is from them.  That about sealed the deal.  After we worked through the numbers and I helped them understand the cost savings of going Direct to Plate they were convinced this had to be done soon.  The only other hurdle was how to get rid of the old camera platemaker.  Well their neighbor took it off their hands for free as they are a metal scrap dealer. 

Xpedx was able to do all the installation and training along with some follow up training and all is great.  Marcy said that she wished she had made the change sooner as this has been a tremendous cost and time saver for her and her staff.
